Biography
Amelia is an SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship doctoral student at the Department for the Study of Religion. She earned her BA in Honours Humanities with a Minor in Religious Studies in 2019 from Carleton University and completed her MA at the DSR under a SSHRC grant in 2021. Her dissertation investigates how the author of the Thanksgiving Psalm, 1QHa 11: 1-19, uses abstracted ideas about women and their bodies in order to express their crisis situation. Amelia is interested in the ways in which culturally constructed and socially specific understandings of gender and sexual difference were used by ancient authors to convey circumstances of disaster and trauma.
