Congratulations to MA student Joel West, who has recently published a scholarly volume on the Joker, one of the most iconic villains in the comic book universe.
Joel’s book, entitled “The Sign of the Joker: The Clown Prince of Crime As a Sign,” examines the place of the Joker in contemporary popular culture.
The book appears in the Brill Research Perspectives series, a new initiative launched by the centuries-old academic publisher in 2018. The series provides a peer-reviewed platform for scholarly discussions of popular culture, from anthropology and art to neurology and psychology.
Joel’s volume is the third in the series, following titles on pop culture memes and American consumerism.
Congratulations, Joel!
