In anticipation of its inaugural Buddhist Languages Summer Institute (set to begin in summer 2012), the Buddhist Studies program at the University of Toronto is pleased to offer a Tibetan-language Abhidharma reading workshop from Sunday, Aug. 14 to Tuesday, Aug. 16. This short, three-day intensive workshop will focus on selections from the cosmology sections of the Abhidharma, selected by the instructor.
Our course instructor will be Khenpo Kunga Sherab, who was trained extensively in the monastic universities of Tibet, Nepal, Sikkim and India, and who is an accomplished Tibetan scholar whose primary expertise is in Abhidharma literature. Khenpo Kunga is now Tibetan language instructor at the University of Toronto.
The focus of the class will be on reading and translation primarily. Khenpo Kunga will prepare grammar lessons and vocabulary sheets for each class. Each day will be consist of group lessons, group reading and translation, and individual translation work. Homework will be assigned for the following day. Each day will run from 9:30 am to approximately 5:30 pm.
This workshop is open to those with an intermediate or advanced familiarity with classical Tibetan. The workshop fee for all three days is $125 (all of which goes directly to Khenpo Kunga).
